A no-fee school in Carltonville North West is forcing parents to pay fees.

The school was declared a no-fee school in 2010. IOL reports that the school demands fees close to R1000 and goes as far as withholding report cards. The latter action is said to be illicit even for a fee-paying school. Some parents have been at loggerheads with the Letsatsi Combined school principal and have refused to pay fees this yearand some parents are sharing their predicament with the news site. It’s reported that parents had raised the issue with the Department of Educationand an official was sent to the school earlier this year to investigate. Education spokesman Charles Phahlane said that the department’s investigation found that parents had decided “to make voluntary contributions for the upkeep and maintenance of the school as well as paying for extra cleaning staff”, reports IOL.
