The Public Utility Transport Corporation, which runs the Putco bus service, has announced plans to cancel its services in several Gauteng metros, reports SABC.

The provincial roads and transport department says Putco will cease operations in the Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and Sedibeng metros Tuesday.

The move has the potential to leave thousands of commuters stranded. The department says however Autopax, a subsidiary of PRASA, will step in to replace Putco on subsidised routes.

Putco provides commuter bus services in Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga.
