Numsa finally to leave alliance

Numsa is set to launch its party, the United Front, in December this year.

Following its announcement in December 2013 that it was exploring the possibility of forming a new political party, Numsa today made the confirmed that they have decided to cut ties with the tripartite alliance.

"We decided to break with the alliance and resolved to form a United Front and explore the possibility of socialism in South Africa," secretary general Irvin Jim said today.

The tripartite alliance consists of trade union federation Cosatu, the ruling African National Congress and the SA Communist Party.

Numsa is set to launch its party, the United Front,  late this year: "In December this year, 2014, we are launching the United Front."

The union is one of the biggest in the Congress of SA Trade Unions federation.
