After Donald Trump won the elections for the US presidency in November last year, Oprah Winfrey said she might consider becoming president too.

The legendary talk show host says she realised she can be elected to the White House.

“I just thought, ‘Oh… oh”, said Winfrey during an interview with financier David Rubenstein in December for his show on Bloomberg Television, which was aired this week.

The 63-year-old had previously said she’d never consider running for the top job but she recently spoke about her change of heart.

Winfrey says before Trump's election she thought that she didn't have the necessary government experience to run the country but she now thinks differently.

“It’s clear you don’t need government experience to be elected president of the United States”, she said. “That’s what I thought,” she continued.

The billionaire businessman had never before held public office before his election victory.

But she’s now shared her thoughts on running for president in a candid new interview.

I thought, ‘Oh, gee, I don’t have the experience, I don’t know enough. And now I’m thinking, ‘oh,’ she told Rubenstein.

Winfrey had been a high-profile supporter of both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton over the last three elections.
