The legal team of murder-accused paralympian Oscar Pistorius failed to stop gun charges from being added to his case.

The legal team of murder-accused paralympian Oscar Pistorius failed to stop gun charges from being added to his case, eNCAreported on Tuesday.

The National Director of Public Prosecutions, Mxolisi Nxasana, rejected the bid by Pistorius's legal team to prevent the addition of the charges.

The charges are related to two incidents where Pistorius allegedly fired a gun in public places.

Laywers reportedly appealed to the National Prosecution Agency, arguing that the gun charges fall out of the court's jurisdiction.

Pistorius briefly appeared in court on 19 August for shooting his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp at his home on Valentine’s Day this year.

The trial will run from 3 to 20 March at the North Gauteng High Court.
