Our fair lady, Thuli Madonsela

Thuli Madonsela looks almost regal as she walks down the stairs in a stunning blue outfit.

She has the poise of someone used to power and authority yet she’s soft-spoken, reserved and clearly doesn’t like being the centre of attention.

This is the woman who’s been shaking things up in her role as public protector, whose knack of sniffing out corruption and dirty dealings has left several top politicians quaking in their boots.

Since 2009 she’s investigated some high-profile political intrigues and her name has become synonymous with fair play and good governance.

When deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe recently received some bad press about partner Gugu Mtshali’s alleged involvement in soliciting bribes from an aviation company the first thing he did was to ask the public protector to investigate the matter.

And he can be sure that with Thuli (50) in charge, no stone will be left unturned . . .
