Motorists are advised to fill up their tanks as the price of petrol is set to go up at midnight.

eNCA reported that the price of 93 octane petrol will increase by 44 cent per litre, 95 octane will increase by 41 cent per litre and the price of diesel will cost 4 cents more per litre.

The Department of Energy said the adjustments are influenced by international and local factors.

“The increase in the prices of all petroleum products is due mainly to the weakening of the rand against the dollar during the period under review. The rand lost around 40 cents against the American dollar since the end of May 2015 as a result of negative sentiment on emerging markets globally,” said a statement issued by the department.

The international prices for petrol increased on average while the prices for diesel and illuminating paraffin decreased, said the department.

The increase in the international prices of petrol was mainly due to strong demand for petrol in Europe and to pre-Ramadaan buying in the Asian market.

Locally, the price of illuminating paraffin will go up by 8 cents a litre on Wednesday.
