During a raid on a Silverton house in Pretoria, they found several bottles of chemicals and reams of paper.

The raid followed months of investigation and led to the arrest of a man and a woman.

Police spokesman Captain Johannes Maheso said that forensic investigators were analysing the paper and chemicals that had been seized.

He said the two suspects had been released on a warning and would appear in court soon: "Analysts are now trying to determine exactly what the chemicals are. At this stage it is suspected that they are used to manufacture counterfeit banknotes. Detectives are establishing how long the suspects were allegedly manufacturing counterfeit money for and who they were apparently supplying the money to."
