A 46-year-old police captain allegedly raped a Worcester woman in a police van, reports Cape Times. The woman is said to have been threatened by the on-duty officer if she reported the incident and thus the woman didn’t immediately report it according to The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) spokesman Moses Dlamini.

According to a police statement the woman was allegedly raped by the on-duty policeman in a marked police van at 11.30pm on June 20. Dlamini said the policeman had been arrested immediately after the woman opened a case. The suspect is due in the Worcester Magistrate’s Court on Monday. “The Ipid conducted an investigation and decided to arrest the suspect on the same day based on the evidence.

He is being held at the Paarl East police station until his appearance.

The investigation continues,” he said.
