POPCRU (Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union ) has come out condemning the killing of police officers while they’re on duty.

News24 reports that the union is upset by the fact that so many police officers were being killed while doing their job.

POPCRU spokesperson Richard Mamabolo is reported to have said in a statement: "It has come to our attention that these criminals will stop at nothing in undertaking their malevolent deeds. They have [taken] it upon themselves to butcher the very people who are protecting our communities, and therefore attempting to render our communities as criminal blisses [sic]."

The union called on police management to ensure that all officers were properly armed and well-resourced to defend themselves and innocent citizens, the report continued.

"We shall not sit back and watch our country being hijacked by these criminal elements, who continue to turn our children into orphans.”

It was reported that three police officers have been killed in Johannesburg and Cape Town over the past two days.
