Premier Soccer League Life President Dr. Leepile Taunyane has passed away, at the age of 85.

In a short media statement the PSL  said: “It is with sadness and regret that we inform you of the passing of the PSL Life President, Dr Leepile Taunyane.

“The PSL Executive Committee (EXCO) will meet with the family tomorrow. Further information will be provided at a later stage.”

In 2008 Taunyane was appointment as an Honorary Life Member of the National Executive Committee of the South African Football Association (Safa).

The Alexandra-born teacher was instrumental in the formation of some of the local and district associations that fall under the jurisdiction of Safa.

Taunyane committed himself towards continuing to serve the 'beautiful game' in his new capacity, coupled with the different roles that he is currently involved in.

He has served the football fraternity in various leadership roles since the 1970s, including occupying the presidency of the Transvaal Football Association (1974-85), Alexandra Football Association (1959-80), vice-president of the South African national Football Association (1978-1985), Chairman of the National Soccer League (NSL 1985-93) and Chairman of Premier Soccer League (PSL 1996-2001).

We send our sincere condolences to his family, friends and the South African football family.
