Rhodes scholar Ntokozo Qwabe is celebrating the completion of his Bachelor of Civil Law master’s degree from Oxford University in the UK.

Qwabe used to work for Shoprite and saved up to attend the University of KwaZulu-Natal before receiving a scholarship to study abroad. He posted a celebratory video of himself dancing in his graduation gown with the hashtags

#FellingSilly #OxfordConquered #Second Masters #ThirdDegree. Qwabe finished his studies on a high note despite recent controversy around a racist encounter he had with a white waitress at Obz Café in Cape Town, where he and a friend refused to tip her on the basis that they would tip her when she “returns the land”. He received much public criticism with many calling for his scholarship to be revoked.

“Who said Africans abroad can’t move? Cos no matter where we are in the world we still got this thing in us. Sometimes our African moves, and general capacity to have fun & get a lil silly are the only thing we got to deal with all of the things in this world [sic],” he says.
