After about 30 years in the music industry, Rebecca Malope is still the most recognisable gospel singer in the country. She shares more about her incredible staying power

She’s not called the Queen of Gospel for nothing.

Very few, if any, artists in the South African music industry have managed to achieve what she has: three decades in the music

business and 36 awardwinning albums under her belt – now that’s an achievement to be proud of.

When we meet up with Dr Rebecca Malope, there’s a notebook in front of her on which she is feverishly working on her eagerly-awaited memoir. It’s been years in the making, she says, and her reason for the long wait is simple: she wants to write every word herself.

“I am writing it because I believe I am the best person to write my story,” the 47-year-old world-renowned gospel artist says. “I want to tell it myself and it should be out by December.”

So what’s her secret to longevity?
