NDIFELANI MUTSWARI is furious. There is no way she would allow her granddaughter Vanessa Mutswari to be given away as a gift, she says. Not to the SABC’s Acting Chief Operations Officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng – or to anyone else, for that matter.

Vanessa, the 23-year-old beauty queen reportedly offered to Motsoeneng as a wife by lobby group Mudzi wa Vhurereli ha Vhavenda, has already chosen her own husband, journalists heard at a press conference held in Johannesburg.

Mudzi called the press conference to explain that their gesture had been misunderstood: Motsoeneng had, in fact, been offered a cow and a calf, not a wife.
