The 18th Annual MTN South African Music Awards, popularly known as the SAMAs, will be returning to Sun City in the North West Province, where the event has been staged successfully for a number of years.

The judging has been completed, the countdown has begun and the stage is being set for another star-studded celebration of music on April 29 and 30.The shocking news is that South African music’s biggest occasion will now take place on a Sunday and Monday night unlike the usual weekend affair the industry is used to.

Recently appointed SAMAs CEO Randall Abrahams said that he was “happy with the number of entries received that was on par with previous years.

This shows the resilience of the local music industry and the amount of talented artists engaged in producing music”.

The nominees will be announced on March 8, toasting the cream of South African music across 32 categories.

Sun International’s Sue Klerck expressed her excitement about the MTN SAMAs’ return to Sun City and surely she’s not the only excited person about this move after the disastrous event when they moved the venue to Joburg.

“The Superbowl is ready and waiting for another celebration of South Africa’s best,” with excitement she said.
