SAMA XXI was a night of stars, highlights and blunders. Take our poll as well

Sun City's Superbowl played host to the 21st annual South African Music Awards on Sunday evening and there were plenty of highlights and lowlights to accompany the star-studded event.

The biggest winners of the night were Capetonian pop trio Beatenberg who bagged a total of six awards including Album of the Year, Best Group or Duo as well as Best Pop Album.

Skhanda king KO walked away with the most coveted gong of the night, a public vote ensured that he snatched the Kia Record of the Year for his smash hit Cara Cara which features Kid X.

The Mpumalanga-native also beat out fierce competition to take home the Best Rap Album and Best Collaboration awards.

Other winners worth mentioning were Bucie who walked away with the Best Female Artist silverware while  AKA was named the Male artist of the Year and Cassper Nyovest was given kudos as Best Newcomer.

Kwaito legends Mdu Masilela and Mandla "S'pikiri" were honoured with Lifetime Achievement Awards for their contribution to music.

The night was filled with some blunders as well - Kabelo Mabelane had to call out the sound technicians when KO was making his way on stage to receive his trophy for the biggest award of the night but there was no music to accompany his walk onto the stage.

The live performances and collaborations were a mixed bag that did not work as well as the organisers had probably expected because the sound wasn't always working that well. HHP didn't win a lot of people over for his hosting skills, with many questioning why he was asked to be the only host of the awards.

Jeremy Loops seems to have won new fans as people on social media raged about his performance on the night. Maleh walked away with her very first award in the Best Adult Contemporary category and Afrotraction's album, For the Lovers was named the Best R&B/Soul/Reggae Album. The opening performance with AKA, Mdu and Duncan was a highlight for most as well as Cassper's collabo with Prime Circle. Take look at both below:
