The South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) has begun the year fending off claims its behind a billing disaster.

The South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) has denied claims that they have a billing disaster.

The agency implemented  the controversial e-toll system that went live on December 3, 2013, in Gauteng.

Only a month later motorists are receiving SMSs or emails saying they owe money and their accounts have been handed over for collection.  And it's been widely reported that motorists who are deceased or living in other provinces have received the threatening messages.

The Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (Outa) says it has now requested that the Deputy Public Protector set in motion an alternative dispute resolution process.
