Jacob Mamabolo, MEC of the Gauteng Department of Cooperative Governance, Traditional Affairs and Human Settlements, has officially launched the #SAVEWATER campaign.

The launch took place yesterday at the Zwartkoppies Pump Station, Rand Water in Johannesburg and marks a new era in efforts to save water. The campaign will be rolled out throughout the province and will be driven mainly by government employees and councillors. As part of the effort the campaign against water leaks will also be intensified.

Mamabolo described the campaign as a “water revolution in our province”. He said, “You should remember this day because as from today, the conversation in our province is going to change for the better as we increase our knowledge on preserving our precious resources such as water.”

Rand Water Board Chairperson, Advocate Matshidiso Hashatse, said both the community and the government have a role to play in support of the #SAVEWATER campaign.

The National Department of Water and Sanitation, Rand Water and Eskom Water Management were among those who signed the pledge, committing to support the campaign.
