The Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) says it will contribute R50 000 towards the funeral expenses of each victim who died.

The Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) says it will contribute R50 000 towards the funeral expenses of each victim who died when the church’s guest house collapsed in Lagos, Nigeria.

The church’s spokesperson Kirsten Nematandani says, “We have done a full audit of each family’s financial needs and assisted with various household expenses as many of the deceased were breadwinners.”

Nematandani also says that the church has travelled to all the provinces in the country in the past few weeks to visit, counsel, assess the families’ financial needs and assist where possible.

“The church has also set up a call centre to counsel and assist the bereaved,” adds Nematandani, emphasizing that the church recognises that although the loss suffered by family members can never be replaced, these efforts will go some way in helping families cope with  aspects of the their bereavement.

He says the church has pleaded with the Nigerian government to speed up the repatriation process in order for families to bury the deceased with dignity and receive closure.
