Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari was loudly jeered while injured star Neymar was given a hero's welcome by fans at the Mane Garrincha National Stadium in Brasilia before Saturday's third-place play-off against the Netherlands.

Neymar, who is recovering from a fractured vertebrae suffered in the quarter-final win against Colombia, travelled with the team to the capital for the match.

He will play no part but did come out with the rest of the squad ahead of their pre-match warm-up and there were huge cheers when he appeared waving on the large screens inside the stadium.

Earlier, the screens relayed pictures of the Brazilian team bus arriving, and Scolari was greeted with a chorus of boos by the home supporters in the 69,000-capacity venue.

There was a mixed reception for the squad as a whole, with captain Thiago Silva and fellow centre-back David Luiz loudly cheered.

In the absence of the suspended Silva, Luiz captained the team that was humiliated 7-1 by Germany in Tuesday's semi-final in Belo Horizonte and could not hold back the tears in a television interview after that match.

Brazil are attempting to rescue some of their battered pride by beating the Dutch in the capital in the match that serves as the appetiser for Sunday's final between Germany and Argentina in Rio de Janeiro.
