Nokwazi Kunene is a bubbly teenager. She was born and raised on Kutlwanong street Vosloorus, Gauteng - East Rand and her family has lived here for 15 years.

Nokwazi (13) and the other children in the community are mourning the death of Senzo Meyiwa who they say they “looked up to as an older brother”.

"Senzo would come here on weekends and would round us up to play soccer in the streets," she says.

The time he spent encouraging her motivated her to take up soccer as an extra mural activity at school.

"He taught me how to kick, stop and control a ball," she says

Sanelisiwe Kula (13) also used to play soccer with Senzo.

"I was sleeping when he was shot, I don't remember anything. But my parents woke me up and told me before I went to school," she recalls.

Nokwazi swallow her tears before she speaks.

"He was such a cool guy. He never behaved like a celebrity. He was so humble."
