It would seem like Kelly Khumalo's new album is not just about the music, but the stories behind every single song.

It would seem like Kelly Khumalo's new album is not just about the music, but the stories behind every single song.

One particular song is penned for her late slain boyfriend, former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goal minder, Senzo Meyiwa.

Even after his passing, Senzo remains special in Kelly's life. “Senzo will remain a special person in my life. I am not trying to replace him," said the Asine singer.

Speaking to City Press, Khumalo had decided against getting a tattoo in memory of Meyiwa, but instead wrote a song called "Senzo". The song features on her soon to be released album, "My Truth".

“I thought I was going to get a tattoo, but it was not going to do anyone justice," she said, adding that she wouldn't want any potential man to feel like he couldn't win her heart.

Through the emotional song, Kelly hopes to say things she can't say to Senzo since he's passed away.

“Have you ever wished you could say certain things to a person who has passed away, and you never got a chance to say those things?" she said.

The pensive song took Kelly back, but she said it had to be done. “You have to be in the moment if you are going to write a sincere song. It took me back and it was quite an emotional song. But it needed to be done.”
