The memorial service of the late Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs star, John "Shoes" Moshoeu will take place on Friday, April 24 at Grace Bible Church in Soweto at 12:00.

The funeral service details will be released later on Thursday.

Friends and former colleagues have paid their condolences to the family at Moshoeu's home in Bryanston.

Moshoeu's mother says his passing is a loss to the family at large.

He played for the now defunct Giant Blackpool and Kaizer Chiefs, before moving to Europe.

After a lengthy successful football career in Turkey, Moshoeu returned to his old team Kaizer Chiefs, where he lifted two league titles.

Minister of Sports and Recreation Fikile Mbalula said, "He was a talented player, a very responsible individual which I think most of our players can take a leaf from his life."

"Not only players, we, as individual human beings, we can learn from Shoes. Shoes knew what was first; his priorities were not mixed up. He knew that he is a footballer, a professional; he must be disciplined," Mbalula said.

Former Bafana Captain Lucas Radebe, said: "Some of the memories I have is seeing the fans coming with a big shoe and when he touches the ball you knew they will say 'Shoeeeees!' That’s what Shoes brought to the game - a colourful character, very skilful and was one of those who changes the game and if you mention the team list No 10 you knew it was Shoes Moshoeu."

"Nobody would not come and watch when personalities like that played," added Radebe.
