After the brutal murder of her married boyfriend, Senzo Meyiwa, South Africans are left wondering if Kelly Khumalo should undergo the same cultural rituals performed for the deceased's family, to rid her of any future bad luck.

Dr. Velaphi 'Bhedlindaba VVO' Mkhize  founder and president of the Umsamo African Institute says,  told DRUM that Kelly definitely needs cleansing.

“In African culture if someone has been involved with someone romantically and if that man dies they must be cleansed. In Kelly’s case its a must because Senzo and her shared a child.”

Dr Mkhize says another reason why Kelly should be cleansed is also because Senzo was shot at her mother’s house in Vosloorus. “Kelly must be cleansed in that regard since Senzo was with her when he died. The house where he died must also be cleansed, just like how Senzo’s spirit has to be taken from the hospital where he died.”

Speaking to the Sowetan, a traditional healer said: A nyatsi (mistress) needs to be cleansed after the passing of her married lover. If not, not only is she in immediate danger, but she puts whoever else she comes in sexual contact with in danger too."

"If you don't get proper cleansing, anyone you sleep with will get sick and their life may be in danger. So it is imperative to follow the correct rituals," he said.
