A snowfall warning has been issued for parts of the Eastern Cape for Wednesday, the South African Weather Service said.

The north-eastern parts of the Eastern Cape can expect some snow on Wednesday, forecaster Elizabeth Webster told News24.

There were no other warnings for any part of the country for the coming days, said Webster.

Meanwhile, the weather in the Western Cape has started clearing after the heavy rainfall in the province that made life miserable for residents of informal settlements.

"The number of dwellings in water or wet conditions is 1 634," City of Cape Town spokesperson Charlotte Powell said.

"No emergency sheltering has been activated and NGO partners are providing relief," she said.

Light snow has also fallen over the eastern Free State, local residents told News24.

“The world around us isn’t white with snow, but some snowflakes have fallen,” said Magdel Scholz, a Bethlehem antiques dealer.

“But this is nothing compared to the Free State snow I have seen in the past. We have had snow that is hip deep in previous years. It had cut us off from the outside world for four days.”
