"The people's poet" finds himself in the firing line amidst claims that together with the late Mandoza's manager, Kevin Ntaopane tried to defraud the musician's estate.

Sunday World had reported that the two had fraudulently written a letter in Mpho tshabalala's name to the Music Association of South Africa (Masa) requesting funds to finance Mandoza’s record label Nkalakatha Records.

At press conference on Tuesday, Mandoza's widow has since come out to deny the claims, saying she didn't speak to anyone.

Present at the presser was Mzwakhe Mbuli who took the media to task for "killing Mandoza before his death". Mzwakhe also challenged Sunday World to publish the letter in question. "They were supposed to publish the letter. Show the world the letter like we are doing with Guptas and Pravin Gordhan. Show the letter so if we committed fraud we are not above the law," he said.
