Trade union Solidarity and AfriForum will on Tuesday announce legal action to be instituted against quotas in sport.

Trade union Solidarity and AfriForum will on Tuesday announce legal action to be instituted against quotas in sport.

This comes after Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula announced that Athletics South Africa (ASA), Cricket South Africa (CSA), Netball South Africa (NSA) and the South African Rugby Union (SARU) would be suspended from bidding for, or hosting, major international events as they had not met their transformation targets.

Mbalula made the announcement during the release of the Eminent Persons Group on Transformation in Sport's report in Pretoria.

"I will review this decision when considering the results of the 2016/2017 Transformation Barometer," Mbalula said at the announcement.

The bidding/hosting ban would even affect international tournaments like the Rugby Championship.
