Spoil your kids with a homemade gift

17 May 2014

Do you want to try your hand at making homemade gifts for your children? Here’s a super cute idea which you can finish in time for Easter.

Some bunny loves you – How to knit a bunny

This bunny family is a great project for beginners because it introduces you to simple shaping. The boy bunny has a white muzzle so you’ll have to change colours to make him. Fluffy pompoms make the tails and fabric scraps line the ears.

Making up

Fold the bunny in half with knit sides (right sides) together. Sew up from each end, leaving a gap of approx 2 cm in the middle. Turn the bunny the right way out so the knit sides (right sides) are on the outside. Fill with stuffing. Sew up the gap.

Ears

Cut out two fabric ears lined with iron-on interfacing. Use two pieces of iron-on interfacing on each ear to make them more rigid. Sew each piece of fabric to the inside of a knitted ear. Sew the ears to each side of the bunny’s head using the shaping at the top of the head to position them correctly and the correct width apart.

Finishing touches

Embroider the nose in pink or white yarn and the eyes and mouth in brown or black yarn (as shown in the photograph). Make a pompom tail using white yarn and attach to the bottom of the bunny’s back side.
