Happy Ntshingila has resigned as SuperSport CEO following months of illness.

Happy Ntshingila has resigned as SuperSport CEO following months of illness, the pay-per-view channel said on Thursday.

"While recuperating I decided in the interest of my long-term health to not return to my position as CEO of SuperSport," said Ntshingila in a statement.

The MultiChoice Group, which SuperSport falls under, supported his decision.

Ntshingila would play an advisory role to group CEO Imtiaz Patel.

"On behalf of the MultiChoice Group, I wish to thank Happy for his contribution... and wish him continued health and success," Patel said.

SuperSport head of acquisitions and legal Brandon Foot would be the acting CEO until a replacement was appointed.

Ntshingila joined SuperSport in March 2012, and before that he was executive director of marketing and communications at the Absa Group.
