Eskom CEO, Brian Molefe, broke down when addressing the media about the Public Protector’s State Capture report.

Molife said he had agonised the whole night after the damning report was released on Wednesday afternoon.

“I have agonised the whole of last night on what we could have done differently and I believe nothing,” he said.

Molefe became highly emotional and was moved to the point of tears.

There have been calls for all those who are implicated in the State Capture report to resign. But Eskom says it will continue to stand by Molefe who says he is weighing up his options.

Molefe revealed his fears that his children will be taunted at school because the report has tainted his image, making him look like a corrupt man.

“I just want to say I never had the opportunity to explain what I have explained now,” he said.

Molefe questioned finding in the report that revealed through phone records that he had visited the Gupta’s Saxonwold estate 19 times in four months, and did not provide an explanation of the 44 calls he made to Ajay Gupta.

After a momentary breakdown, Molefe said he would not engage the media on the matter of the report further.

Instead a press briefing has been called for 10 am on Friday morning.
