4 teens have been arrested for allegedly stabbing 4 others on a school bus in Pietermaritzburg

Four high school pupils, aged between 16 and 19, have been arrested for allegedly stabbing 4 others on a school bus in Cedara, outside Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Saturday.

"2 accused were released in the care of the parents since they were minors," Captain Thulani Zwane said.

On Friday, four pupils were stabbed during a fight on a school bus. 2 were stabbed in the chest, a 3rd  had severe facial injuries, and the 4th had been stabbed in the arm, ER24 spokeswoman Luyanda Majija said earlier.

"Paramedics were told that the incident occurred when approximately 12 males arrived at the school where some jumped onto the bus and started stabbing the learners on the bus."

Zwane said that one of those arrested was an accused in a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm dating back to August. The pupils who were stabbed were witnesses in that case.

"[The] arrested suspects will be charged for attempted murder and will appear in Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court soon," he said.
