I’m a 17 year old boy, I'm gay and my parents don’t know, I don't know how they will react if they find out, will it haunt me for the rest of my life if I don't tell them?

Question: I’m a 17 year old boy. I'm gay and my parents don’t know. I don't know how they will react if they find out. Will it haunt me for the rest of my life if I don't tell them?

Answer: Revealing your sexual orientation to family is surely the hardest thing to do. Especially if one might be brought out in a conservative family. Before you ‘come out’ to your family, I suggest that you meet up with a counsellor.

They will help you to come to come up with ideas on approaching your parents. The wonderful thing is that theTestotherapyre are programmes, books and people who understand the complexity and angst of living with the secret of homosexuality.

Seek these out and don’t suffer alone and silent.  Contact OUT, an organisation that may be able to assist you in how to go about it.
