I am 26 and in love with a beautiful woman and want to pay ilobola for her.

Question

I am 26 and in love with a beautiful woman and want to pay ilobola for her.

My father died many years ago, so I asked one of my uncles to represent me, but my uncles and aunts are fighting each other. One of my aunts is not happy that I have asked my uncle, they wanted me to ask someone else. Some family members have threatened not to attend the wedding. I am frustrated.

How can I get them to sort out their problems? I just want to get married.

 Answer

Whenever you are trying to do something great and wonderful it seems as if the universe conspires against you.

And it sucks that a young person like you is the only rational person amongst grown-ups. I believe that with time and patience, people do come around and realize their selfish behaviour. Approach a family elder, a priest or someone who can talk to your aunts and uncles and tell them about your situation.

They should talk to your family and find an amicable solution to the problem. If you have done everything in your power and your family doesn’t want to smoke the peace pipe, then you will just have to go ahead without them.

This is supposed to be a joyous occasion for you; it shouldn’t be based on you being Dr Phil and acting boxing referee. Good Luck.
