Songstress Thandiswa Mazwai celebrated her 40th birthday

By Qhama Dayile Wednesday night, songstress Thandiswa Mazwai celebrated her 40th birthday and toasted to 21 years in the music industry at Bassline in Newtown, Johannesburg.

Having waited more than 5 years after the release of Dance of the Forgotten Free (live in Concert), her fans were treated to a lovey surprise when she gave a sneak peek to her new up-coming body of work. In one of her new songs ‘Yebo Sisi’, Thandiswa expresses her love and respect for women and mothers. In another song she expresses the urgent need for everyone to be free, and her hatred for politicians and how everything is political from how we eat, speak, love and think. Thandiswa spontaneously took the audience down memory lane, sharing heart-warming stories about Boom Shaka, Brenda Fassie and her days as a Kwaito music vocalist for her first musical band Jack-Knife.
