5FM DJ and Generations: The Legacy actress Thando Thabethe is the only South African celebrity that will be rubbing shoulders with the nominees and top entertainers in the world at this year’s MTV EMAs.

“It’s a dream come true to go to a show of such a magnitude and rub shoulders with the world’s biggest stars. It’s a step in the right direction because I see myself as part of them in the not-so-distant future,” she said.

Thabethe says she not only hopes to bump in to Rihanna, but she’s looking forward to partying with the BBHMM hit-maker.

She says that it’d be interesting to see award-winning singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran together with actress Ruby Rose host the awards.

“I am also looking forward to the star-studded performances of the night,” Thabethe said.

The lineup includes the likes of Pharrell Williams, Jason Derulo, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, James Bay, Jess Glynne, Tori Kelly, Ellie Goulding, Rudimental, twenty one pilots, Mark Ronson, Ashley Benson and girl group Fifth Harmony.

Since the awards show will be held in Milan, one of the “big four” fashion capitals of the world, Thando says that she’s looking forward to “a young shopping spree.”

“I wish I was going with my bae,” she said laughingly.

The awards will be broadcast live across the globe and on MTV (DStv channel 130) on Sunday 25 October at 21:00 CAT.

On October being cancer awareness month, the 5FM DJ said that she’s worked very close with actress Lillian Dube and consider Dube as her grandmother.

Thando said: “Even with the recurrence of cancer, mam’Lillian has kept good spirits and has been exemplary with her attitude towards it. She doesn’t let it define her.”
