Thank you mama

Come Sunday 13 May, SA will celebrate Mother’s Day. But multinational personal care products maker Procter & Gamble (P&G) and retail chain Pick ‘n Pay opted for an early start.

The two companies launched the “Thank You Mama” campaign at Cyrildene Primary School in Cyrildene, east of Johannesburg, marking their first of Mother’s Day celebrations to be rolled out at 1900 schools around the country.

As part of the campaign, school children sing, dance, recite poems and produce works of art to celebrate their mothers.

The multifaceted campaign will also honour the moms of SA athletes billed to participate in London 2012 Olympics Games in August, including those of Caster Semenya, Khotso Mokoena, Noko Matlou and Amanda Dlamini among others.

P&G is a partner with the International Olympics Committee and a sponsor to all SA Olympic hopefuls.

“Raising children to become competent adults is the hardest job in the world,” P&G External Relations manager Leanne Davidson said.

“We want to say ‘thank you’ not only to the athletes but their moms as well.”

Davidson said that though the campaign has a strong focus on school children and athletes, it also aims to appreciate every mom in SA.

She said that those interested in sending their moms a thank you message can post textual and video messages or pictures of their artworks on www.thankyoumama.co.za .
