The captain’s captive (4/4)

The Rosettenville kid was in deep trouble…

LATER that night, I gathered my meagre belongings and sought out a quiet spot where I could lay my cardboard bed.

I stared at the moon so long that I started seeing the captain’s shining head in its face. He was slipping across the sky in a crabby way, wheeling circles within circles, as he crept ever closer. And I heard his voice hissing like cicadas in the night.

I covered my head. I had found shelter in Rosettenville. I knew I could not become a sellout. But I also knew, one way or the other, I’d have to deal with Bossman.

The end.
