The EFF stands together against Mngxitama

"We support Julius Malema. He cannot be moved by a tornado and tsunami combined."

The EFF's Johannesburg region spokesperson, Arafat Sello Tladi says the party will continue to support the EFF and its members.

This follows the attack on EFF leader, Andile Mngxitama by fellow party members in Cape Town in the run up to the State of the Nation Address (Sona).

Mngxitama was set to have a press conference, but proceedings were disrupted after the leader asked EFF members to leave and they not only refused, but went on to attack him.

“We as EFF in Johannebsurg have taken a resolution to defend the EFF and CIC [Julius Malema] physically. An enemy of the Commander In Chief (CIC) is an enemy of EFF," Tladi says.

"We wants to warn enemies, during this time of Valentine's, to not confuse red berets with berets of Valentine's. We are fighters, we will defend the movement and its people."

When asked whether Mngxitama is now considered an enemy of the EFF, Tladi said the writings were on the wall: "If you classify yourself outside of the EFF, then you are no longer part of the EFF. He has undermined the EFF and we won’t tolerate him doing that. There is constitution and if you cross the line, you are outside."

The spokesperson says the day is still expected to be about the EFF's demand for President Jacob Zuma to answer to #PayBackTheMoney questions: "Today is pay day," he tells DRUM.

He also said attempts by Andile to create a breakaway party would be fruitless as he "doesn't have the capacity" to garner a mass following. "He failed with Azapo and the September National Imbizo. He could probably not even get 20 people behind him. Maybe he can put together a drinking squad, but certainly not a party."

While tensions have been heightened within the party over the past few weeks, it seems Julius Malema still holds his position as the EFF's leader quite firmly. "We support the CIC. He cannot be moved by a tornado and tsunami combined," Tladi concludes.
