He came into critical acclaim for portraying Martin Luther King Jr in Selma and now he's making history as the first black person to portray James Bond.

The Independent reports that David Oyelowo will be the voice of James Bond and other characters in a recording of the new 007 novel, Trigger Mortis.

Oyelowo was reportedly handpicked to be the voice of the secret agent.

"I was asked specifically by the [original author Ian] Fleming estate, which is really special," he told the site.

"I am officially the only person on planet Earth who can legitimately say, 'I am the new James Bond'...even saying that name is the cinematic equivalent of doing the 'to be or not to be speech."

Though there still hasn't been a man of colour that has ever portrayed the world's most famous on the big screen, people on the street have made it clear that they would like Idris Elba to be the history-maker.

Guess Mr Oyelowo is a step in the right direction for now.
