Testifying in the Protea Magistrate Court, Molemo Jub Jub Maarohonaye told that the court that his car was not the one that crashed into a group of schoolchildren on the Mdlalose road in Protea North on March 8, last year.

He and Themba Tshabalala were allegedly drag racing in a grey and blue mini coopers on Mdlalose road when the six kids were hit by a mini cooper. They both face charges of attempted murder, and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

“This case is media driven. I do not understand why the news were already in the paper at 5pm saying that I was under the influence of alcohol and that l was charged for murder when I was not yet charged and when I was only tested for alcohol after 11pm,” he said.

“I was not under the influence of morphine and cocaine. He added that he was tested six times and all the times the reading were 000; meaning  that there was no trace of alcohol or any other substance.

He added that he was not aware that that children had been killed until much later, when he was told so when he was in a police van on his way to a police station in Dube. “I didn't plan it. This could have happened to anybody.”
