Three people, including a child, drowned in a dam in George on Sunday.

Three people, including a child, drowned in a dam in George on Sunday, the National Sea Rescue Institute said.

A 26-year-old man, a 13-year-old girl and a nine-year-old boy were reported missing on the south-western side of the dam earlier in the day, spokesman Craig Lambinon said.

Their bodies were found by rescue swimmers and they were declared dead on the scene.

"Police have opened an inquest docket and it is not known to the NSRI what led to the persons going missing underwater," said Lambinon.
