Three people appeared in the Verulam Magistrate's Court on Friday after being found in possession of drugs, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

Lindy Walker, 28, Able Hermanus du Plessis, 29, and Sibongile Mthembu, 36, would be back in court on November 4 for a bail application, Colonel Jay Naicker said.

Walker and Du Plessis were arrested in Durban on Tuesday night after being found in possession of drugs with an estimated street value of R6.5 million.

The couple were caught at the King Shaka International Airport after they landed from India, said Naicker.

Police confiscated 36 kg of crystal methamphetamine in their luggage.

Mthembu was later arrested in the Point area in Durban waiting for the delivery of drugs from the couple, said Naicker.

The arrests followed an instruction by provincial police commissioner Lt-Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni to identify people supplying drugs to dealers in the province.
