Brayden King, a toddler, has drowned after falling into a tank of baptismal water in an Alabama church.

He was with his 13 year-old sister when he fell into the tank  at the Pentecostal House of Prayer in Decatur.

Brayden was found submerged in over 83 centimetres of water and pronounced dead after unsuccessful attempts to revive him.

His mother, Kimberly King had prayed to God for years for a son: "Twenty-two months ago he gave her a son," a pastor said.

"And 22 months later he was taken away. I’ve been preaching 30 years and pastoring for 20 years, this is the first time in my ministry I’ve been speechless."

The accident is said to have happened at 7.45pm on Friday while Brayden was at the church with his older sister and mother.

His mom was preparing for a skit to be performed at a prayer meeting and his sister had been looking after him.

After losing sight of him for a few minutes, the tragic accident happened.

The family is said to be devastated by the incident.
