Together at last

THEIR little room is painted a cold grey and smells of Jik, but there is plenty of warmth between these four bare walls. It’s here that long-lost love has been rekindled, breathing new life into an otherwise drab Soweto old age home and putting a spring in the step of an elderly couple who thought they were destined to die alone.

Each time the residents and nurses of the home see the couple emerging from their room, they break into their favourite song: Guga mzimba sala nhliziyo (The body will age but the heart will remain young).
