Our deepest condolences, to the family of former Cabinet minister Tokyo Sexwale.

Tokyo’s father Frank Sexwale has died. He was 97 years of age.

Sexwale senior was one of the few who fought in the 2nd World War.

ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa says the departure of Sexwale senior represents an immensely sad moment as he remains one of the many compatriots who were prepared to pay the highest price for the liberation of South Africa and her people.

Tokyo's niece and media personality Kay Sexwale said: “My heart is broken into a million little pieces. 2 hours into flight to Hong Kong my grandfather Frank Sexwale became an ancestor.”

“Ntate Frank Sexwale and his generation have ensured the successful defeat of the apartheid government and delivered political freedom to the nation as a whole,” said Kodwa in a media statement.

“The ANC sends its unwavering support to his wife, Mhe Sexwale, for the constant support she has given throughout the life of this giant. May the family, take comfort in celebrating a life well lived in the service of our nation,” said Kodwa.
