Public figures have made use of their Twitter accounts to convey their sadness about the football legend's passing.

On Tuesday afternoon, the world of South African football was rocked by the passing of former Bafana Bafana midfielder John "Shoes" Moshoeu.

Moshoeu's agent Glyn Binkin broke the news about Moshoeu's lost battle to cancer on his Twitter account. The SportsEagle.com reports that former captain of the national squad and soccer legend Lucas Radebe and the president of the South African Football Association (SAFA), Danny Jordaan visited the Morningside Clinic in Sandton where Moshoeu passed away to pay their tributes on Tuesday evening. Jordaan expressed his sadness on behalf of SAFA at the hospital. "I saw him on Monday evening when I visited him at the Clinic and although he was not in good shape, he recognised me and even spoke a bit; little did I know that this was some way of him saying goodbye," Jordaan said as quoted by the site. "Our deepest condolences to his family and friends for their loss, hope they find strength in these difficult times.  As the Association, the passing on of this legend saddens us," he reportedly continued. Radebe spoke about the bond he shared with his former teammate and friend. "When I saw him struggling on Monday, I was heartbroken but I still expected that a fighter Shoes was, he would pull through.  What an exemplary figure he was on and off the pitch.  He lived a clean life – never smoked or drank, exercised religiously and this happens.  Anyway that is life; we are never masters of our destiny," Radebe reportedly expressed. Other prominent personalities such Mark Fish, Marks Maponyane and Bonang Matheba used their Twitter accounts to express their sadness about Moshoeu's passing.
