A University of Pretoria medical student was on Tuesday granted an urgent protection order against a classmate who had allegedly been sexually harassing him for a year.

The court order prevents the classmate from making any physical, electronic or telephonic contact with his fellow student.

Both are fourth year medical students at the University of Pretoria.

The student said in a sworn statement that the classmate made his first advances in the campus library last year, Beeld reported.

Despite the student's firm rejection, and saying he was not gay, the classmate began sending him Facebook messages that alternated declarations of love with threats of physical harm.

His messages reportedly included: "I am going to sit behind you and follow you on campus and in your car... I love you, I am going to stalk you for the next three years... Man bitch! Fag! Weirdo! I'm going to bliksem you!"

His mother apologised to the student via a lawyer's letter and agreed to the terms of the restraining order. This letter would be submitted to the psychologist currently treating the classmate.
