Many would agree that the fashion and elegance of LQP are just as important as the horses.

By Koketso Mashika  The date and judges to the 155th running of the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate have been announced.  Many would agree that the fashion and elegance of LQP are just as important as the horses.

Judges this year include last year’s winner of the Best Dressed Lady title, Deborah Calmeyer, who will be working alongside Bonang Matheba and fashion design brother and sister duo Errol and Gloria Arendz.

As last year’s winner, we ask what will make the perfectly dressed lady or gentleman.  “A combination of great style, elegance and glamor to fit the occasion,” Deborah says adding that one should have creative ways of using the LQP’s colours. “[Wear] clever fabrics that drape well and last all day. Don’t wear linen that’ll crease and look like a handkerchief in the first 5 minutes,” she adds.

How would she describe her personal style we ask? “Simple chic with a touch of playfulness. Always professional!  I hate anything too tight, too short or too revealing,” she says. She loves designer Roland Mouret’s clothes because they fit like a glove.

“The fabric is always [of an] exceptional quality and each dress has something unique to it, off the shoulder or laser cut neckline or something subtle and sophisticated, but always an element of fun!”

Now you know how to put your best foot forward.  The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate will be held at Cape Town’s Kenilworth Racecourse on 9 January 2016.
