Award winning songbird Lira’s year is going very well.

With her recently released sixth studio album Born Free, a spot as a mentor on reality show The Voice, a make up endorsement with Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, the star was announced earlier today as the global face of number one whiskey brand Johnnie Walker.

DRUM caught up with the singer for a quick chat on her music, growing brand and her marriage to her husband and manager Robin Kohl.

Congrats on being the Johnnie Walker global ambassador. How do you feel about that?

I am very excited about that. I seem to be attracting things that are aligned with what I am doing. I am getting more platforms to be more of myself. And this campaign is about a Joy Walker and everything I do in my life is from a premise of being joyful and extending joy to other people.

Your new album Born Free was released on Itunes and Apple Music over the Easter holiday . Whats this album about?

I asked myself what it means to be born free and that’s where the album came from. I think we are free by the fact that we are born. So the album is about expressing what freedom means to me and questioning other people and inspiring them to find their own freedom. We have a big launch for it at Gold Reef City on the 8th and 9th of April.

Lets talk about The Voice…

Yes, lets talk about it. I am enjoying it and having the time of my life. For the first time I am able to transfer what I have learnt in my 13 years in music to fellow musicians. Its great to be part of birthing new talent. The fact that the tone of the show is positive and not malicious attracted me to doing it.

You and Robin have been together for seven years, any babies along the way or plans to start a family?

We are busy, but having fun. We are walking in our joy and enjoying it. So for now no, no kids. We are designing our lives and enjoying it. Kum'nandi, nothing is missing.
