Cape Town - A UCT student who was found guilty of crimen injuria for urinating on a taxi driver from the balcony of the Tiger Tiger nightclub last year was expected to be sentenced in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Djavan Arrigone was found guilty by Magistrate Siviwe Yaki in December last year. During his judgment, Yaki told the former Boss model that he could have at least apologised for the incident, but instead he had been "agitated, confrontational, arrogant and evasive" in court, the Saturday Argus reported at the time.

During his previous appearances, Arrigone told the court that he had seen people urinating from the balcony of the Tiger Tiger club in Claremont many times and it did not occur to him, in his inebriated state, to go to the toilet.

The victim, Michelle Pius Nomgcana, has previously demanded that Arrigone compensate him financially and issues a public apology.

Nomgcana claimed that, since the incident occurred, he had become a target of mockery in his community "because a white guy urinated on me". People stared at him wherever he went and he felt humiliated, he said. He said he had also lost his ability to earn an income because the people at the taxi rank no longer welcomed him. Arrigone, had also suffered a financial blow since the incident after his modeling agency Boss cut ties with him. His grades had also dropped, he claimed.
